Lars Klevberg’s remake of the iconic 80’s slasher film is penned by Tyler Burton Smith, with David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith producing.
The film shares the same name as the original 1988 film, in which a serial killer, Charles Lee Ray, is fatally injured and transfers his soul into the body of a Good Guy doll. A widower gifts the doll to her young son, who has no idea his new toy is possessed by the spirit of a murderer.
Aubrey Plaza plays the role of Karen, the mother of young Andy, played by Gabriel Bateman, who receives a Buddi doll as a present — aka Chucky. We see Chucky scanning Andy’s face in the trailer, and from there things quickly take a sinister turn.
The original Child’s Play was created by Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner, both of whom are currently working on making more Child’s Play films, as well as a TV series. MGM’s remake of Child’s Play will essentially be a competing property with the Orion Pictures 2019 remake, as Mancini and Kirschner are not involved in the reboot in any capacity.
Child’s Play is scheduled for released in the United States on June 21, 2019.
