In a year filled with highly anticipated movies, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is one of the most eagerly awaited. The adaptation is produced and developed by Academy Award winning director Guillermo del Toro and directed by Andre Ovredal. Overdal directed the 2010 Norwegian horror mockumentary Trollhunter.
Much like Trollhunter owed much of its story to Norwegian legends and folktales, the Scary Stories film has its pedigree in popular culture. Written by Alvin Schwartz with memorable art from Stephen Gammell, the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book series is one of the most popular, controversial, and banned books of all time.
The trailer shows many familiar characters from the books. It also looks like Scary Stories will have an overarching story and not just be an anthology of the best tales from the series.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is scheduled to release on August 9th.
