Fans have long wondered about the fate of DC Extended Universe’s Black Adam movie. When it was announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would star, interest for the long-in-development movie rose, and then with the success of Shazam! there seemed to be no doubt that the project was happening.
Well, fans finally have some news that brings Black Adam one step closer to filming, and almost leaves no doubt that the movie is indeed going to happen. A report out of THR reveals that Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) has been tapped to take on the arch-nemesis of Shazam with Hollywood A-lister Dwayne Johnson in the lead role as Teth-Adam, aka Black Adam.
Created by Otto Binder and C. C. Beck, Black Adam first appeared as a villain for the first issue of Fawcett Comics’ The Marvel Family comic book in December 1945. He was later revived as a recurring character when DC Comics acquired the Fawcett characters and began publishing Captain Marvel comic books under the title Shazam! in the ’70s.
Teth-Adam was an Egyptian slave who like Billy Baston, received his powers from the wizard Shazam. Unlike Billy, Adam abused his powers after being corrupted by the incredibly abilities they granted him. As punishment for his crimes, he was imprisoned for millennia by the wizard. Seen as many comic books fans as a bad boy anti-hero, Black Adam skirts the line between good and evil.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in early-to-mid 2020
