Absolute Carnage #1 variant cover debuts first look at “Dark Carnage”

A first look at the titular villain of next month’s Absolute Carnage.

A new action figure variant cover from artist John Tyler Christopher for writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman’s upcoming Absolute Carnage #1 due out August 7 has debuted the first look at an all-new, all-different Carnage.

Called simply “Dark Carnage” by Cates in a tweet about the cover, the new look speaks to all of the bad stuff Cletus Kasady has been through in the past few years: losing his legs, dying, being resurrected by his dark God Knull, and more, in a really raw and suitably scary way that only a spiritual follow-up to Maximum Carnage could offer. Is Cletus more Carnage than man now? It certainly seems that way heading into this Symbiote-verse spanning event, the main cover, trailer, and solicit for which are included below:

After turning Venom’s world upside down a year ago, DONNY CATES and RYAN STEGMAN are about to put the Sinister Symbiote through hell again, only this time CARNAGE has come calling, and everyone who’s ever worn a symbiote is dead in his sights! He’s skirted the periphery of the Marvel Universe for months, but Cletus Kasady at last stands poised to make his grand return to New York in a blistering triple-sized story…and he wants to paint the town red!

What do you think? Are you excited for a seriously sinister symbiote story or do you have a bit of event fatigue? Sound off in the comments!
