Put away your disco clothes and 70’s ‘staches and trade them in for some leg warmers and Aqua Net. HBO’s The Deuce returns for its final season, but press fast forward on your VCR. The new season is set in the 80’s.
The Deuce, created by David Simon and George Pelecanos, first aired in September of 2017. The drama centers around characters from different walks of life in New York City. The show examines the sex industry in its various forms and evolutions. In addition to that, the show also looks at the changing attitudes towards race, gender, and sexual orientation.
The show is full of characters with grim lives and hopeful aspirations. The Deuce stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Franco and features a host actors that have become regulars in David Simon’s world. To name a few, Lawrence Gilliard Jr and Chris Bauer, both from The Wire, have pivotal roles in the series.
Season 3 premieres on HBO September 9th.
