Andy Serkis is officially set to direct the Venom 2, the sequel to Sony’s 2018 film featuring one of Spider-Man’s most notorious villains.
Serkis — actor-turned-director — made the announcement today on his Instagram account.
“Verified It’s actually happening. I can feel it, the Symbiote has found a host in me, and I’m ready for the ride…Can’t wait,” said Serkis in his post.
While critics panned the film across the board, Tom Hardy and his wise cracking symbiote sidekick won over fans and became a huge financial success grossing $213 million at the domestic box office and $856 million worldwide. Sony hopes to begin shooting this November.
Serkis is best known for gaining notoriety as the character Gollum in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy from 2002 to 2004. He also played the menacing role of Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as well the one-armed Klaw, one of the villains in Black Panther.
Sony has set a loose release date for the film on October 2, 2020.
