Watch: Trailer for ‘Little Women’

Greta Gerwig writes and directs this adaptation for a new generation to enjoy and maybe even inspire them to pick up the book.

Little Women has returned to the big screen. The novel Little Women has been adapted several times for film and television. Greta Gerwig writes and directs this adaptation for a new generation to enjoy and maybe even inspire them to pick up the book.

Based on the 1868 novel by Louisa May Alcott, Little Women tells the story of four sisters and their mother. Set in Concord, Massachusetts, the mother and sisters fend for themselves and others while their father is fighting in the Civil War. Little Women sets itself apart from stories of that time by having strong-willed feminists characters with career ambitions, but most notably, the most vocal sister has no interest in romance. Their mother is supportive, outspoken,  and encourages their interest.

Laura Dern plays Marmee, the mother. Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, and Eliza Scanlen play the March sisters. Also, starring is Timothy Chalamet as Theodore Laurence.

Sony Pictures is set to release Little Women this Christmas.
