The coolest horror comic book event out there right now is back this week with its second chapter and two new tie-ins. Probably the most anticipated of the tie-in comics is Miles Morales, which will weave in the character to the bigger event. Can this three-issue miniseries deliver the goods? With Saladin Ahmed writing it, you betcha!

Why does this matter?
As tie-in series go, this one delivers the goods. It establishes Miles and who he is, sets up Scorpion, and then drops a motherload of a cliffhanger. Seriously, this cliffhanger means a lot to the greater story of this event.
Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Miles and Gank are going shoe shopping, but alas Miles doesn’t have the cash for $300 shoes. Cut to the money raining from the sky and a solid gag from Ahmed to kick this story into action mode. This is a good first issue of the miniseries that should have most pumped for more. The issue has Scorpion getting his plans foiled by Miles, but more importantly, a key Spidey villain meets Miles for the first time. That adds a bit of weight to their confrontation. Their new relationship (if you can call it that) is further explored thanks to the Carnage drones, who show up thanks to Scorpion wearing the Symbiote once before.
Ultimately this is a fun fight comic with good character writing and a fantastic cliffhanger. Seriously, I won’t spoil it, but check out this book for the cliffhanger alone.
The art by Federico Vicentini with colors by Erick Arciniega and letters by Cory Petit do an exceptional job of capturing the kinetic energy of Scorpion and later in the issue the onslaught of Carnage drones. Whether it is a bank truck being overturned or Scorpion slapping his tail against Miles’ chest, you feel it. If I were to sum up Vicentini’s pencils, I’d call them clean and crisp.

It can’t be perfect, can it?
This issue is doing everything right, but it’s also a quick read that is customary of so many comics — intro of characters, confrontation, cliffhanger. The entire plot takes place over 15 minutes tops and while it’s a longer read for this type of comic, you might be wanting more.
Is it good?
Great characterization, action, and visuals make this a great read. The cliffhanger makes this a must-read for anyone even partially interested in Absolute Carnage.
