The latest Wrestling Observer newsletter is reporting that multiple sources have revealed that CM Punk was at FOX Studios in Los Angeles earlier this week trying out for a potential on-air backstage role with WWE.
FOX has a new FOX Sports 1 studio show debuting on their network on November 5.
Dave Meltzer had this to say on the matter:
“It’s basically the feeling that even though WWE went after him hard with the lawsuit that cost him a ton of money, like seven figures, that WWE is the place he feels he can make the most money.”
Supposedly Punk did on-camera tests with Renee Young, who according to the new WWE announce team roster, will no longer be doing commentary on RAW. She’s reportedly be reassigned as a “special contributor” to the Smackdown announce team, which absolutely leaves room for her to do other on-camera commentary roles for WWE.
In addition to punk, FOX has reportedly brought in other unique personalities from the wrestling world to test for on-camera roles, including Paige, Sean Waltman, Taz, and Rey Mysterio.
