Not content to drag out its biggest mysteries across an entire season, Episode 3 of Emergence reveals what Piper actually is.
Fans of the new ABC drama were treated to an early screening of this coming Tuesday’s episode at New York Comic Con and had their biggest question definitively answered. What makes Piper — the mysterious, precocious child discovered near the wreckage of a plane crash — so special? To find out the secret, you’ll have to tune in on Tuesday, but the cast showed up after the screening for a panel discussion.
“We answered the question everybody wanted to know: Who’s Piper? You got more questions,” said series star Donald Faison (Scrubs, Clueless). After saying he prefers not knowing what’s going to happen on the show in advance, the cast joked that Faison doesn’t read the scripts. “I’ll be at the table read and be like, ‘OH! WHAT?!’,” Faison remarked.
“I’m very happy that that came out so early,” said Piper herself, the series’ young star Alexa Swinton. She expressed relief she didn’t have to hold onto the secret about her character for long.
Of Piper, Zabryna Guevara, who plays Abby, said, “I just realized that the no blink factor was what makes you so creepy.”
Allison Tolmon (Fargo) also discussed how Tuesday’s revelation will impact Jo’s journey: “I think her kind of ability to compartmentalize and deal with the thing that’s right in front of her is really remarkable. And we just continue to see that moving forward, obviously, after learning this bizarre piece of information. Her ability to be like, roll with the punches and be like, okay, what do we do? Like, now that we know, what do we do? Better than mine. I would be flipping out if I were Jo.”
