NYCC 2019: Capcom unveils its updates roadmap, including Resident Evil and Horizon Zero Dawn crossovers

Capcom’s showing at NYCC 2019 included big news for Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and more.

Monster Hunter World is Capcom’s biggest seller to date, and they did not disappoint at this year’s New York City Comic Con. With such a rabid fanbase, Capcom has committed itself to release continued content to the fans. At Friday’s World of Capcom Panel, Senior Brand Manager Mike Lunn and Brand Director Charlene Ingram presented a Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Title Update Road Map that includes Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield from Resident Evil. Yes, Resident Evil will be a part of the Iceborne Universe.

To enjoy all the new updates for Monster Hunter: Iceborne, players must first complete the core story to the original Monster Hunter, a point Mike Lunn wanted to reinforce for the fans. Considering the disparate differences from a near god tier player compared to the proverbial “noob,” Capcom is introducing new content to welcome everyone into the fold. Soon players will have access to the new Guardian Armor and Hunter Helper Program.

Grinding is always an issue in games of this ilk, and to alleviate unwanted hours of gameplay, Capcom is granting all players on Xbox and Playstation The Guardian Armor. The Guardian Armor is touted as “the perfect armor set to help you through the Monster Hunter: World story campaign, so you can enjoy Iceborne ASAP! Regardless of level, the set will suffice to defeat nearly any creature. The set comes equipped with a high defense early on and can be upgraded to take on Elder Dragons. To boot, the Guardian Armor grants increased health and better stamina usage. And yet, the community at large might be your best tool to reach higher ranks.

The Hunter Helper Program allows high-rank players to support lower level players and incentivizes these players to lend a helping hand by rewarding them for their efforts. For every quest in which you aid a fellow hunter, you will receive “one special item.” Items weren’t specified, but there’s a good reason now to make some new friends. If you love cosmetics (and who doesn’t?), then there’s all the more reason to show your altruism. After completing several “Hunter Helper Quests,” you can receive pendants to adorn your weapons. For once, a good guy might not finish last.

Good news for Playstation fans, as they will be privy to an exclusive tie in with Horizon Zero Dawn. Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds is a unique collaboration with the titular series with Quest rounds coming in both November and December. Sorry Xbox fans, at least you get Monster Hunter free on Gamepass. All systems will be receiving the newest monster: Rajang. Senior Brand Manager Mike Lunn stressed the beast is intended to provide a new challenge.

Capcom is trying to be all about the fans, and in doing so, new content stems from your efforts. Winners from Capcoms Palico Design Contest and Weapon design contest had their work created for the game. Releasing in November, players will access to the new “Wiggler set a+ “Palico Gear.” Also, in November, the new “Black Eagle” Charge Blade is released. The blade doubles as both a shield and a battle-ax, both aesthetically and functionally, the Black Eagle should prove to be popular with fans.

Capcom closed the Monster Hunter portion of the panel with a real bang: as presaged earlier, Resident Evil is coming to Monster Hunter. With roars from the crowd, a trailer was played showcasing Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield blasting (and dancing) their way across the world of Monster Hunter. The Resident Evil content includes new skins, tyrant handler costumes, weapons, and more. With so much coming in the last quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, Monster Hunter fans have tons to look forward to.
