AEW provides health update on Cody Rhodes

The American Nightmare suffered a scary injury during his match Saturday night.

It was a rough Saturday night for Cody in Baltimore, Maryland at AEW Full Gear, the first pay-per-view of the Dynamite era.

The American Nightmare squared off against All Elite Wrestling’s Le Champion, Chris Jericho, for the AEW World Championship. The stakes for the match were already high with the AEW Championship on the line, but Cody took things a step further by adding the stipulation that if he lost the match, he can never again challenge for the title.

During the match Cody took a dive over the ropes and suffered a scary face first landing on the metal entrance ramp. On lifting his face from the ramp the challenger was sporting a gaping and bloody wound above his right eye. The match was briefly stopped several times by referees so they could attempt to stop the bleeding.

AEW offered an update on Cody’s injury Sunday afternoon on their Twitter account.

Costochondral separation is also known as a rib separation and typically takes three to four weeks to heal. Cody’s Mom, a former ER nurse, helped stitched him up after the match.

Unfortunately for Cody, not only did he lose the match, he didn’t even have a choice in the matter. Maxwell Jacob Friedman AKA MJF, Cody’s best friend, threw in the towel while Jericho had Cody in the lion tamer submission hold, ending the match and forever blocking Cody’s path to the AEW Championship.

But it gets worse. After the match MJF entered the ring to console Cody, only to give him a low blow and betray his friend and mentor.
