On the eve of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, a casual ‘Star Wars’ fan has some questions

I can’t wait for ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ and I have some questions.

The Star Wars community can be pretty intimidating. They are incredibly knowledgeable and well versed about the franchise they love. Questions you think make complete sense have been answered long ago. I cannot remember a time when I did not like Star Wars. My fandom does not extend beyond the movies, however. I’m as basic a fan as it gets. Naturally, heading into The Rise of Skywalker, I have a few questions.

Why does C-3PO have red eyes?

There have been some awesomely wild theories birthed from the Star Wars community. From Ewoks that eat human flesh to annoying Sith Lords, it seems like every character has received a bad ass makeover. Except C-3PO. So what’s with the red eyes in the Rise of Skywalker trailer? Is he evil, dying, or just malfunctioning? Whatever the case, I am looking forward to seeing what is going on.

Haven’t there been enough dream sequences?

The dream sequence in The Empire Strikes Back is one of the best parts of the Original Trilogy. There is nothing else like it in the first three movies. Episodes VII-XI have embraced force visions and dreams. At times, TROS looks like it’s going to be a series of flashbacks. Combined with what we have seen in the first two parts of this trilogy, it seems well past time to pump the brakes.

When will the Skywalkers come back?

The big marketing push has been centered around how this is the end of the Skywalker saga. For those of use who have grown up on Star Wars this is a pretty big deal. It is admittedly nice to have some more non-Skywalker stories, but there is a sense of sadness. Still, it is hard to believe this will be the end of the Skywalkers. It may be years, but who doubts there will be another movie involving the family (I give it fourteen years before Disney goes back to the Skywalker well.)

Who’s gonna have a kid?

This may tie in with the question above. Somewhere in TROS, someone is going to admit to being pregnant. It may end up being a background character, but chances are it will involve someone central to the plot. Baby Yoda has already taken the world by storm. Let’s give him a baby Skywalker to train. It can also leave a backdoor open for the inevitable return.

Who’s gonna die?

Sure, it can be anybody, but really this question is directed towards Kylo and Rey. It is pretty much a given that one of them is going to die; the question is who? I’m taking the easy way out here. Rey never seems to lose a fight and Kylo is being set up to pull a heroic sacrifice. Best case scenario? Both are lured by the Dark Side and team up to destroy Rebel scum leading to a cool death for both.
