BY THE SKIN OF THEIR TEETH!

The NEW MUTANTS know it’s tough to adjust to having powers, especially with the new Krakoan paradigm. They’ve been there – and they’re able to help, no matter how weird, wild and dangerous the case may be! …Right?

So… two things come to mind when I see this twisted Mike Del Mundo cover.

First, New Mutants always had some of the wildest covers in comics thanks to Bill Sienkiewicz, so it’s awesome to see Marvel continuing this tradition with this series. And if you’ve never seen Del Mundo’s inventive, Legion-focused X-Men Legacy covers, Google those right now!

Second, this cover’s got Chamber, Karma, Mondo, Armor, Wolfsbane, Mirage and Boom-Boom, which proves that the New Mutants cast will continue to evolve and showcase various generations of younger mutants, which is what series writer Ed Brisson promised when we spoke at New York Comic Con this past October.

“I think like, you’ve got new characters in the mix who don’t have the same shared history, bringing their own hopes of being X-Men,” Brisson said. “I think it will be interesting to see how that rubs against the New Mutants. And going forward, the plan is to constantly mix up the team and change up the dynamics all the time, so I think we’ll be looking at how do the Generation X characters and New Mutants characters and all the other characters we want to bring in play off one another, which I don’t know if that answers your question, but taking some of the characters like Chamber and Mondo and what’s out of place for them is incredibly interesting. I think it’s a good way of evolving the team a little bit and not just being this one class of future X-Men.”

Look for New Mutants #10 this April!
