Checking in on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ #1 and when we last saw this Avenger

A classic Marvel hero is back and possibly on the team soon enough.

Spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned. For more read our review.

Al Ewing and Juann Cabal take over on Guardians of the Galaxy today and it’s an epic first issue. It does a good job checking in with the usual Guardians like Drax and Gamara and explaining why they’re taking a break. Instead, we have a new lineup of heroes joining Star-Lord and Rocket. Those being Nova, Marvel Boy aka Noh-Varr, Moondragon, and Phyla-Vell (the Captain Marvel of her reality). It’s made clear early on this is a small team and may even be outmatched against Zeus and his god soldiers. Have no fear, a new hero will join the fray!

And it’s none other than…

Hercules! It appears Zeus has locked him up. But wait, when was the last time we saw this character? It was in Avengers: No Road Home #10 when it released April 17th! The last time we saw him he was actually suiting up for a cosmic adventure.

He even got a nifty new costume that appears to be lost in today’s issue.

Regardless, this is an exciting reveal since Hercules has been off the board for a good while and it appears he’ll be joining the Guardians of the Galaxy just as soon as Marvel Boy frees him.

That’s only a fraction of the story though and I highly recommend you read the entire issue to get the full picture!
