Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has signed a deal with WWE, TheWrap and PWInsider confirm. Last night on WWE Backstage, Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet noted the two were “close” to an agreement, but it appears that the contract has already been signed. WWE has not officially confirmed the signing as of yet, but is heavily teasing the news.

Gronkowski has appeared on WWE television before, jumping the barricade during the pre-show of WrestleMania 33 to help his real-life friend Mojo Rawley defeat Jinder Mahal to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy. This, combined with his physique, charisma and his foray into the world of acting instantly led to rumors that the three time Super Bowl champion was on his way to the squared circle.
Last month, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon attended Rob Gronkowski’s “Beach Party” Super Bowl weekend, and extended an offer to Gronk for this year’s SummerSlam, which will take place in Boston, the major metropolitan home of the New England Patriots, Gronk’s former team.
Thanks for the invite to the Beach Party @RobGronkowski … maybe you should come to our party in Boston … heard it’s the biggest of the summer. @StephMcMahon pic.twitter.com/eRQ8z0UmQI

Do you think Gronk has what it takes to make it in WWE? Is this a smart move, or just another part timer cutting into the pushes of promising talent? Let us know in the comments.
