Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings said today that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis deemed WWE an “essential business,” giving it the go-ahead to operate in spite of shelter-in-place orders after some “some conversation with the governor’s office”.
Many people have questioned WWE’s ability to continue taping shows in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, but now we know the answer: the state of Florida, home of the WWE Performance Center, has deemed the company an essential business.
“I think initially there was a review that was done and they were not initially deemed an essential business,” Demings said. “With some conversation with the Governor’s office regarding the Governor’s [stay-at-home] order, they were deemed an essential business. Therefore, they were allowed to remain open.”
WWE is presenting episodes of Raw and SmackDown on a weekly basis from the Performance Center in Orlando, and as of now is still advertising the Money in the Bank event, scheduled for May 10.
