HBO Max, the latest entry into the streaming platform wars, will officially launch on May 27th.
If you haven’t been keeping up, HBO Max differs from HBO, HBO GO, and HBO NOW (I know). HBO Max will include the general HBO service that you can currently get from your cable provider or from HBO NOW, but will also offer “Max Originals,” new series that won’t be included in the baseline HBO service, as well as WarnerMedia’s vast library of intellectual property, including syndicated favorites like Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
HBO Max will cost you $14.99 a month, which makes it one of the most expensive streaming offerings, but again, includes HBO proper, which often costs that much alone, making it sensible to upgrade to Max if you’re already an HBO subscriber. There are currently no plans to discontinue HBO, HBO GO and HBO NOW, however, so if you are happy with what you have (or whoever owns the login you use has), there is no action needed on your part.
HBO Max has been hyping up a number of new shows for the service’s launch, including:
- New episodes of Looney Tunes
- Legendary
- Craftopia
- Not Too Late Show
- Love Life
- Howl’s Moving Castle
