Lucasfilm releases Ahsoka vs. Maul behind-the-scenes featurette

A look a the process behind the best lightsaber fight in Star Wars history.

Despite how divided the Star Wars fanbase has been the last few years, it seems we all agree that last week’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars was absolutely incredible.

Today, Lucasfilm released a previously teased behind-the-scenes look at “The Phantom Apprentice” and the process behind its epic duel between Maul and Ahsoka. In addition to Ray Park and Lauren Mary Kim’s exceptional motion capture work, we also get interviews from Sam Witwer, Ashley Eckstein, Dave Filoni, and animation supervisor Keith Kellogg. It’s clear just how much this project meant to the people involved and how proud they are of the finished product.

If that wasn’t enough for you, Lucasfilm released another featurette with even more information on the episode, including David Filoni’s heartbreaking explanation for why Ahsoka’s lightsabers are now blue instead of green (4:45).

And speaking of heartbreak, StarWars.com posted a brief clip from this Friday’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars entitled “Shattered.” In case you thought Order 66 was the only emotionally devastating event we’d see, here’s Rex and Ahsoka having a heartfelt conversation about how much their friendship has meant to each other.

This Friday’s episode is going to be all types of exciting, but we might also want to be prepared to shed a few a tears.
