Axel is the son of WWE Hall of Famer “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig, and grandson of wrestling legend Larry “The Axe” Hennig. He joined WWE in 2007 as a member of the developmental Florida Championship Wrestling, before appearing on Raw as a member of CM Punk’s New Nexus stable. In his time with WWE, he has held the Intercontinental Championship once and the Tag Team Championships twice, as a member of the New Nexus with David Otunga and as a member of the B-Team with Bo Dallas.
This is the latest in a large list of releases by WWE since the COVID-19 pandemic. Over two dozen Superstars have now been released, and many producers and backstage agents have been placed on furlough.
