Today, Lucasfilm officially announced that Taiki Waititi will be directing and co-writing an upcoming Star Wars theatrical release. He will be joined by award-winning screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who penned last year’s incredible World War I film, 1917.
Waititi is already well-known (and beloved) by Star Wars fans. He voiced the part of IG-11 in The Mandalorian and directed the show’s phenomenal first season finale. He also directed Thor: Ragnarok (which is all types of great) and will direct its highly anticipated sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder.

So yeah…Waititi heading up a Star Wars movie is extremely good news.
Lucasfilm also confirmed earlier reports that Russian Doll co-creator and showrunner Leslye Headland would be helming a new Star Wars series for Disney+
No additional information was given on when Headland or Taika Waititi’s projects were expected to be released. For now though, it’s nice during this lockdown to hear some good news about the direction of the Star Wars franchise.
