DC Comics has announced Detective Comics #1027 will be a 144-page giant issue to celebrate the first appearance of Batman. Why this issue? Because way back on March 30, 1939, Detective Comics #27 was the first appearance of course. Not only is it large, but the anthology issue features a ton of great creators.
Big names include Greg Rucka/Eduardo Risso, Grant Morrison/Chris Burnham, Tom King/Walt Simonson, James Tynion IV/Riley Rossmo, Peter J. Tomasi/Brad Walker, Dan Jurgens, Marv Wolfman/Emanuela Lupacchino, and Bill Sienkiewicz, Brian Michael Bendis/David Marquez, Mariko Tamaki/Dan Mora, Scott Snyder/Ivan Reis, Kelly Sue DeConnick/John Romita Jr and Klaus Janson, and Matt Fraction/Chip Zdarsky.
Yep, that’s right, Zdarsky is back at it with another DC Comics project after we learned he’s working on Dark Nights: Death Metal as well. It also appears Zdarsky will be drawing a story with Matt Fraction. Also, seeing Grant Morrison contributing is huge especially since he wasn’t involved in Detective Comics #1000.
DC Comics has produced a lot of extra-sized issues this year like the Catwoman 80th and Joker 80th anniversary issues, plus there’s more to come with the summer special out July 28th. Add Detective Comics #1027 to the list of anthology series by DC Comics, which hits comic shops September 15, 2020, and retails for $9.99. Considering the anniversary issues retail for the same price but with far fewer pages and you gotta admit that’s a good deal.
