Today it was announced that Free Comic Book Day 2020 has been officially changed to Free Comic Book Summer. While some individual publishers have already changed their FCBD release dates since the May event was postponed, this is the first confirmation we’ve had that Free Comic Book Day issues will be spread out over eight weeks across all companies.
According to the press release, comic shops will receive five to six FCBD issues every week starting July 15 and running through September 9. Shop owners are then free to release those issues on whatever schedule they feel will work best for their stores.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances that caused this, it’s a great idea that might even help some lesser-known comic series get more exposure. If you’re like me (which is definitely not recommended), then your normal Free Comic Book Day haul probably includes a bunch of books that you end up neglecting/forgetting to read. With only a handful coming out each week now, that’s much less likely to be an issue.
A listing of all Free Comic Book Summer 2020 titles and their expected release dates can be found here.
