The Umbrella Academy Season 2 trailer delivers another apocalypse

Cults, time travel, and a new song from Gerard Way.

When we last saw the Hargreeves siblings at the end of The Umbrella Academy Season 1, they used Five’s time travel powers to escape the apocalypse that was caused by the moon exploding. Which is a serious bummer when after spending the entire first season trying to prevent the apocalypse, the family of super hero misfits actually ended up causing it by their mistreatment of one of their own — Vanya.

But hey, not to worry! The Hargreeves siblings will get another shot at stopping another apocalypse in The Umbrella Academy Season 2. The 10-episode season season will premiere on Netflix on July 31, 2020, and Netflix just released its official trailer. Check it out below.

Thinks are thankfully getting even more bizarre in The Umbrella Academy Season 2, and it all kicks off when Five inadvertently scatters his siblings across the ’60. As per usual everyone in the Hargreeves family is doing all sorts of wacky nonsense: Klaus is leading a cult, Luther is in an underground fighting ring, Rumor is making Diego punch himself in the face, Ben is still kinda dead but appears to have a much larger role, Vanya is maybe slightly less mudery, and the Hargreeves patriarch even makes an appearance.

If the music for season 2’s first official trailer sounds familiar, that’s because for any serious fan, it absolutely should. The Umbrella Academy series co-creator and frontman of My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way, scored the new single with the perfectly appropriate title, “Here Comes the End.”

“I was originally inspired to write this track when series one of The Umbrella Academy was being shot,” Way said in a statement. “By the time I finished it 2020 was in full swing, the world had taken a profound turn and the song was finished in a surreal new reality.”

Returning for the second apocalyptic showdown in The Umbrella Academy Season 2 are Season 1 cast members Ellen Page (Vanya), Tom Hopper (Luther), Emmy-Raver Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Number Five), and Justin H. Min (Ben).

Series showrunner Steve Blackman will be returning as well, alongside executive producers Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Jeff F. King. Series creators Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá will remain in their roles of co-executive producers.
