Fear City: New York vs. The Mafia is a new docuseries headed to Netflix. A different kind of true crime story, this one chronicles the mafia during its “golden era”. More precisely, it is about the decades long battle between the FBI and the five Mafia families that controlled everything.
The trailer for the series gives an idea of what audiences will see. There looks to be plenty of archival footage and wiretaps that show the rise and eventual fall of the infamous five families. Fear City Director Sam Hobkinson cites Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation as an influence.
Interviews will also be an important part of the story. Along with the investigators involved, Fear City also talks to Rudy Giuliani who was mayor of New York City at the time. There will also be interviews from former members of the mob.
Fear City: New York vs. The Mafia premieres July 22 on Netflix.
