Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 07/20/20

Tacoma FD season 2 part 2, the final Room 104 season premiere, and the return of Wynonna Earp.

The three Channel Surfing TV picks of this week are all returning shows. First up, truTV’s hit scripted comedy, Tacoma FD finishes up the latter half of its second season. Then, the Duplass Brothers begin the final episodes of their HBO anthology series, Room 104. Finally, the wait for Earpers is over when the season four premiere of the supernatural western series, Wynonna Earp, airs.

Firehouse Fun Part Deux

Tacoma FD began its second season last March but like much of Hollywood, it was affected by COVID. Even though all the episodes were already filmed, there were some delays in pre-production. As a result, only half of the season was aired in the spring.

After some time, season 2 is finally finished and the second part will begin to air starting this Thursday, July 23, on truTV. Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme, of Broken Lizard fame, bring more firehouse fun in this workplace comedy following the downtime of firefighters in one of the rainiest cities in the United States.

Hotel Reservation for Thrills

HBO’s anthology series, Room 104, has run on the cable subscription network for three seasons already. It was announced last May that the fourth season would be its last. The final 12 episodes of the Duplass Brothers created show will air this summer beginning on Friday, July 24.

Many different genres are represented from horror to comedy as each episode follows the events that occur in the titular location. A revolving door of visitors spend the night and the series explores these characters and their stories. This season, a wide variety of guest stars are checking in including Jillian Bell, Rob Funches, and Dave Bautista.

Demons and Donuts

Financial troubles and a pandemic couldn’t prevent Wynonna Earp from returning. Though the show was originally renewed during the summer of 2018, various hardships delayed production. But Earpers can rejoice when the beloved series airs its season four premiere Sunday, July 26, on Syfy.

Based off of the IDW supernatural western horror comic of the same name, Wynonna Earp will find its protagonist free from the family curse but still stuck in demon hunting as her loved ones and the town of Purgatory are threatened by a new diabolical enemy.
