Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 08/03/2020

The season 2 finale of Doom Patrol, a new animated Star Trek series, and Mike Tyson fights a shark.

The Channel Surfing TV Picks this week look to be a lot of fun. First, the DC Universe’s strangest heroes end their second season of Doom Patrol. Then Star Trek gets animated for the first time since the 70s in Star Trek: Lower Decks. The last TV pick features a battle of behemoths in Tyson vs. Jaws: Rumble on the Reef.

End Patrol

The second season of Doom Patrol has been excellent. Our own Nathan Simmons has been enjoying the series every week in his reviews. Unfortunately, the good times must end and this Thursday, the crew’s most recent adventures will conclude with the season finale.

The character journeys of each member have been enthralling and they all experience significant growth in managing their issues. In addition, the team has incorporated a new addition to this found family in the Chief’s daughter, Dorothy Spinner. Catch the last episode of the season on August 6, on both HBO Max and DC Universe.

Star Trek Gets Animated

We always follow along the adventures of the main heroes in the Star Trek Universe but have you ever wondered what the B or even C-Team are up to in the federation? Now’s your chance in the new CBS All Access animated series, Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Mike McMahan, of Solar Opposites fame, is the creator of the show that follows the support crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos, which happens to be one of Star Fleet’s least important ships. What kind of misadventures will this group get into? Find out when the first episode premieres August 6 on CBS All Access.

Iron Mike’s Next Opponent

Shark Week aired on the Discovery Channel over 30 years ago and in that time, it has grown into a pop culture phenomenon. Each summer, the cable network dedicates an entire week of programming to these terrors of the deep.

A few years back, Shark Week advertised a swimming showdown between gold medal winning Olympian, Michael Phelps, and a Great White Shark. It turned disappointing when Phelps’ opponent was revealed to be computer generated.

In that same vein, another famous athlete is ready to take on one of these vicious predators. Before he steps into the ring next month against Roy Jones Jr., Mike Tyson will fight a shark underwater with Michael Buffer doing the play by play. I know it’s not real, but it should be entertaining and fun. Tyson vs. Jaws: Rumble on the Reef airs Sunday, August 9, on Discovery Channel.
