‘The Boys’ Season 2: Shawn Ashmore joins cast as ‘Lamplighter’

Ice Man will be wielding fire this fall.

News broke yesterday that Shawn Ashmore will be appearing in Amazon Prime’s The Boys this season as the infamous ex-superhero, Lamplighter.

For those who don’t remember: Starlight took Lamplighter’s place in The Seven after he retired under sketchy/mysterious circumstances. Grace Mallory, who helped establish ‘The Boys,’ retired from the CIA (and gave up the mission against superheroes) after Lamplighter roasted her grandchildren.

He’s also the primary reason Mallory and Butcher’s crew disbanded almost a decade ago.

As far as powers are concerned, Lamplighter wields a staff that allows him to control and enhance any nearby flames. This means that the dude who played Ice Man in Fox’s X-Men films is now playing a character whose abilities are pyrokinetic. It might not mean much to you, but I enjoy that sort of frivolous irony

Regarding the role Lamplight will play in the upcoming season…I’d rather not give anything away. If things go down the way they did in the The Boys comic, however, then the character’s appearance will result in large quantities of grief, conflict, and blood…and fire, of course.

The first three episodes of The Boys: Season 2 premieres September 4 on Amazon Prime Video.
