Dangen Entertainment announced today that Minoria, the sequel to the critically and commercially acclaimed Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, is heading to console and has locked in release date. Minoria is launching for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One on September 10th, 2020. The news comes a month away from the game’s release, and over a year after the release of Minoria on PC.
Minoria acts as a sequel to the Momodora series, a gothic Metroidvania that has been well received by many players, citing the game’s presentation and gameplay as remarkable and unique. For the most recent release, Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, players explored a dark world with a pixel presentation reminiscent of the SNES. In this world, players fought off the grotesque and horrifying creatures while searching for clues to proceed and unlock new areas.
In Minoria, players take place in the Fourth Witch War. It is a time of religious upheaval, and the Church is tasked with purging the heresy and evil that has infected the lands. Players assume the role of Sister Semilla, who has been selected as an Inquisitor to fight the strongest enemies of the church. With sister Fran, Sister Semilla embarks on a dark and evil quest. The path is riddled with horrifying creatures and huge boss fights. With skill, courage, and talking to the right person, she may hope to complete her mission.
Lead Designer rdein shared his enthusiasm for the console lanch of Minoria. The series has been a passion project for him and is excited for fans to see this newest installment:
Minoria marked the first time I’ve worked on a game set in a new universe in a long time. It felt like a breath of fresh air! That said, Minoria does contain some similarities with my previous projects, especially Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight. I really hope console players will enjoy the story and characters we’ve prepared in Minoria.
For those familiar with Momodora, Minoria will feature similarities to previous installments, but all set within a new world. Players can expect the staples of a Metroidvania, form large boss fights to various offensive weapons to using dodge-rolls and other defenses to stay alive. Minoria will feature large labyrinths to explore, all adorned with hand-painted visuals.
Whether players have any of the Momodora games under their belt, or this is the very first time, there is a mesmerizing world to explore in Minoria and an ambitious experience to have.
Minoria will be released on September 10th for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for $19.99.
