It was not a good weekend for AEW. For one of the first times since the promotion’s inception, one of AEW’s pay-per-view events — All Out — failed to meet the high standard wrestling fans hold the company to.
Not only was the show filled with a number of bad botches, but there was also several really scary moments in which a number of performers almost got seriously injured, and one appeared to receive a nasty concussion.
Now that the dust has settled from All Out, let’s dive into the latest AEW rankings.
MJF’s underhanded tactics backfired on him in a big way at All Out. While his bodyguard Wardlow was distracting the referee, Jon Moxley jumped on the opportunity and delivered his banned finishing move, the Paradigm Shift, behind the referee’s back, securing himself another victory and continuing his reign as AEW World Champion.
Meanwhile, Lance Archer emerged as the winner of the 21-man Casino Battle Royale, earning himself a future match for the AEW World Championship. That means we’re going to see Jon Moxley against Jake the Snake in a promo battle. Yeah. I’m just as excited as you are.
AEW Rankings Men’s Division
AEW Champion: Jon Moxley (15-0 singles, 21-2-1 overall)
TNT Champion: Mr. Brodie Lee (6-1, 9-1 overall)
1. Lance Archer (13-1 singles, 13-1 overall)
2. Brian Cage (7-1 singles, 7-2 overall)
3. MJF (8-1 singles, 13-3 overall)
4. Cody (18-2, 26-7-1)
5. Scorpio Sky (7-2 singles, 24-11 overall)
Hikaru Shida may have defeated Thunder Rosa at All Out and successfully defended her title, but it feels like Rosa still emerged from that match as the bigger star. AEW needs to pull a Ricky Starks and get this woman signed ASAP. The women’s division needs a lot of things right now, and a certified badass like Thunder Rosa is one of them.
Britt Baker is back and she lost to Big Swole on her home turf. No, not her actual home. Her dentist office of course! If you haven’t seen the Tooth and Nail match between these two then you’re missing out on what was easily the funniest part of All Out.
AEW Rankings Women’s Division
Champion: Hikaru Shida (17-1 singles, 22-7 overall)
1. Nyla Rose (8-2 singles, 15-6 overall)
2. Big Swole (8-3 singles, 10-8 overall)
3. Abadon (5-1 singles, 5-1 overall)
4. Penelope Ford (7-5 singles, 9-8 overall)
5. Dr. Britt Baker (4-6 singles, 13-10 overall)
Congratulations to Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler of FTR on becoming the NEW AEW Tag Team Champions! As expected the wrestling match was great and featured tons of call backs to classic tag teams of the old days. The finish was a head scratcher though. Can’t figure out if it was planned or if Adam Page forgot to kick out. We’ll probably never know.
What the heck is going on with Omega, Page, and The Bucks? I had thought we’d finally get an answer to that question at All Out, but I was wrong. Maybe we’ll find out on Dynamite tonight.
AEW Rankings Tag Team Division
Champions: FTR: Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler (7-0)
1. Kenny Omega & Hangman Adam Page (12-1)
2. Best Friends (14-6)
3. The Young Bucks (7-3)
4. Natural Nightmares (6-2)
5. Santana & Ortiz (7-4)
