‘X of Swords’ is really a romance story confirmed by Zeb Wells

It turns out Marvel’s next big event ‘X of Swords’ isn’t just an action blockbuster, but a romance.

It’s X-Men Monday, and we’re pulling out all the stops for the column’s 75th edition and X of Swords. Starting this week, fans of Marvel’s next big event can get an insider scoop from the weekly X-Men Monday column from a variety of voices. That includes Jonathan Hickman, Al Ewing, Zeb Wells, Tini Howard, Gerry Duggan… and more! Just look at the teaser to see the folks who answered questions and gave tidbits this week:

I highly recommend you read the extra-sized edition (it runs over 4,000 words), but if you want a tasty morsel, check out the question and answers to one of the more tantalizing tidbits below:

AIPT: X-Fans love a good soap opera. Can we expect some romance in-between all the sword fighting?

Gerry: That’d be nice.
Annalise: You better believe it.
Zeb: The whole thing’s based on a romance, really. Oh, did I just show up and say too much? Sorry, really wanted to get in here.
Tini: Zeb’s right and he should say it.
Jonathan: Hey look who woke up.
Ben: There’s plenty of emotional drama mixed into the mayhem. I can’t share anything too detailed, but there’s a lot of angles on… marriage in this thing.

That’s right, the event that’s all about swords is actually based on a romance. X-Force and Wolverine writer Benjamin Percy all but confirms it when he says there are “a lot of angles on… marriage.”

This recent Marvel teaser featuring Apocalypse and a mystery woman comes to mind. Could these two be X-Exes?

Or could these comments have something to do with the romantic cover of Storm dancing the tango?

This comes as a bit of a surprise since the promo posters and early preview images all seem to suggest this is an action-heavy fight-comic with very little romance indeed. What say you, comic book reader, does this make you more excited for X of Swords, or less? Let us know in the comments.

X of Swords Creation #1 kicks off the event and is out in comic book shops on September 23, 2020.

Don’t forget to read the entire X-Men Monday #75 here.
