2020 Emmys: ‘Watchmen’ and ‘The Mandalorian’ take home the hardware

The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards give great genre television its due.

Following their impressive nomination haul over the summer, HBO’s Watchmen and Disney’s The Mandalorian were rewarded this past week with a combined 18 Emmys. Watchmen led the way with 11 trophies, including some well-deserved recognition for Regina King (Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie).

The two exceptional series led a banner awards year for genre television–especially the type of stuff we like around here at AIPT. I’m still grumpy that Star Wars: The Clone Wars didn’t earn any nominations in the animation department, but it’s hard to stay mad with so many exceptional programs on this year’s slate.

A list of our favorite winners from the 72nd Emmy awards is provided below. You can view the full list here.
