A brand-new Valkyrie debuts in ‘King in Black: Return of the Valkyries’ #1 variant cover

Get your first look at an all-new Valkyrie, designed by Mattia De Iulis!

Jason Aaron and Torunn Grønbekk’s King in Black: Return of the Valkyries was announced last week alongside a number of King in Black tie-ins, but today Marvel has unveiled new information on the comic. Most intriguingly, Rise of the Valkyries will include an all-new Valkyrie, designed by artist Mattia De Iulis.

Says De Iulis, “When [editor] Wil Moss asked me to create a new design for a Valkyrie, I didn’t believe him! I’m so excited about this because it is my first experience in this field and I’m really honored to work on this amazing and powerful character!”

This new Valkyrie will appear on one of the variant covers for Return of the Valkyries, illustrated by Phil Noto. You can take a look at that cover, De Iulis’s designs for the new character, and Marvel’s full press release below:

New York, NY— October 21, 2020 — Last week, KING IN BLACK: RETURN OF THE VALKYRIES was announced. Written by Jason Aaron and Torunn Grønbekk with art by Nina Vakyeva, this highly-anticipated series will see Jane Foster reuniting the Valkyries to defend Midgard from Knull. Jane Foster will be joined by former Valkyrie Dani Moonstar, Asgardian warrior Hildegrande, and a new Valkyrie designed by artist Mattia De Iulis. Fans can see this mysterious new character in all her glory on Phil Noto’s gorgeous variant cover for the debut issue.
