‘The Last of Us’ given series order by HBO

The popular video game series is coming to TV.

The Last of Us has officially been picked up for television. Today, HBO announced they’ve given a series order to the drama.

Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann will write the adaptation and serve as executive producers. Joining them as executive producers are Carolyn Strauss, Evan Wells from Naughty Dog, and Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions. The Last of Us is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games and Naughty Dog.

The new show is based off of the critically acclaimed video game of the same name. The story is set 20 years after modern civilization has fallen where a hardened survivor named Joel is hired to smuggle Ellie, a young teenaged girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What begins as a simple job quickly transforms into a violent and emotional trek across a postapocalyptic United States where the unlikely pair rely on each other to survive.

The Last of Us will be available on HBO and to stream on HBO Max.
