DC First Look: President Superman in ‘DC’s Very Merry Multiverse’ #1

Check out an exclusive first look at David F. Walker and Gustavo Duarte’s story from DC’s Very Merry Multiverse.

With December comes cold weather, the holiday season, and comic book holiday specials. That includes DC Comics, who are publishing a new 80-page Giant anthology that’ll run 86 pages out next week. Given the quality of past DC holiday specials, we’re in for a treat. It also features an incredible list of characters across its ten-stories which include Batman Beyond, Booster Gold, Teen Justice, President Superman, Harley Quinn, Prez, Lobo, the League of Shadows, Batman, and Unjustice League of Unamerica. The bench is deep with the number of characters getting a story.

Courtesy of DC Comics, we have an exclusive look at David F. Walker, Gustavo Duarte, and Marcelo Maiolo’s story featuring President Superman called “Bizarro Love Holiday.” The story looks excellent as it taps into the purity of Superman and what the holidays are all about with a slick feel-good art style. As the preview says, Superman wanted “to create a holiday that united the entire planet in empathy and understanding.”

If you’re unfamiliar, President Superman aka Kalel is a character from Earth 23 who first appeared in Final Crisis #7 in 2009. Created by Grant Morrison and Doug Mahnke, Morrison spoke about the character in an interview with  Comics Alliance in 2014. Morrison said there’s something appealing about a new iteration of a character like President Superman and, “That’s where the real fun lies, in creating the spectrum of how far can you get it from the core before it disintegrates? I think that in itself is just always appealing. There’s more color. There’s more powers. There’s more Earths. So if you like all that stuff in the first place, this is like more of everything. The ultimate banquet of that.”

And with that, read below for a taste of David F. Walker and Gustavo Duarte’s “Bizarro Love Holiday.”

Joy to all 52 worlds-it’s time to celebrate the holiday season across the DC Multiverse! In ten stories that will light your yule log and spike your eggnog, Batman decks the gaslit halls, Lobo goes Old Testament in space, Ragman learns the true meaning of Saturnalia, President Superman attempts to figure out how Bizarro stole Christmas, and Harley Quinn tries her hand at interdimensional caroling. These seasonal sagas are sure to help you have yourself a very merry Multiverse!
