The Channel Surfing TV picks for this week include a docuseries, a YA drama, and a comic prequel. Go behind the scenes of the World Solar Challenge and learn the science and engineering of fast paced solar cars in Light Speed. A group of young girls crash land on a desolate island and must rely on each other to survive in The Wilds. Finally, follow along on more of Alfred’s adventures before he became a butler in the second season of Pennyworth.

Racing Through the Outback

The World Solar Challenge is a grueling 3,000km race through some of Australia’s most unforgiving terrain. Competitors from all over the world develop their own solar powered car to participate in the event. YouTube Originals and Seeker have partnered together to bring viewers Light Speed, a six-part learning series that provides a more intimate look at the competition.

Not only will you receive a driver’s seat view from these engineering marvels, but you’ll meet the students and scientists behind their designs and concepts. Light Speed is sure to attract different people from STEM junkies to motorsport enthusiasts to environmentalists. The series premieres globally today, December 7, on the Seeker YouTube Channel.

Stranded on a Deserted Isle

Amazon Prime Video takes the plunge into young adult programming with their new drama, The Wilds. A young group of girls are en route to Hawaii to attend a women’s empowerment retreat. Along the way, their plane experiences problems and crash lands on an uninhabited island.

The show combines teen angst with survivalist adventure as the characters endure in this new environment while hoping someone will find them. Can the girls work together in order to get through the ordeal or will their different personalities clash? Find out when all episodes of the first season of The Wilds are released Friday, December 11, on Amazon Prime Video.

British Civil War

Alfred is the beloved DC Comics character that serves as Batman’s butler and loyal friend but who was he before being employed by the Wayne Family? The Epix series, Pennyworth, focuses on his early life in an alternate London and how he became entangled with Thomas and Martha.

In season two, we find Alfred looking to make a fresh start but when an all-out civil war breaks out in England, he finds himself being drawn back into his old life to save his country. Not to mention, little Bruce makes an almost appearance as a fetus in Martha’s belly in later episodes.

Pennyworth returns this Sunday, December 13, on Epix.
