Earlier today, Aaron Couch and Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Dr. Octopus for Sony’s next Spider-Man film.
Molina first portrayed Doc Ock in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, which still holds up today as a fantastic superhero movie.
When you combine this with the fact that Jamie Foxx will be reprising his role as Electro from 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which was not a good superhero movie) and Benedict Cumberbatch’s involvement as Dr. Strange, it looks all but certain that Spider-Man: Home Improvement Spider-Man 3 will be delving into the Marvel/Sony multiverse.
If you want to add a little more fuel to this tantalizing fire, there are also unconfirmed reports that Andrew Garfield has already signed on to be in the film. If true, he’d get another the chance to put his great (and underappreciated) portrayal of Peter Parker into what will hopefully be a much better script.
No word yet on if Tobey Maguire has signed on, but you’ll know it when he does–both by the resulting article on our front page and the sound Spiderfans (including myself) screaming with unbridled joy.
