During the Star Wars portion of this afternoon’s Disney Investor Day presentation, Kathleen Kennedy–Lucasfilm president–presented a host of exciting new projects coming our way over the next few years.
While much of the footage was restricted to general audiences, we did get a few trailers along with plenty of tantalizing bits of information. Let’s take a look at what was revealed (and we will make sure we all keep our Disney+ subscriptions going in-between seasons of The Mandalorian).
We’ve all assumed this was coming since Ahsoka Tano showed up in Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian, but it’s great to finally have confirmation. Ahsoka will star Rosario Dawson and take place during the same timeline as Din Djarin and Baby Yoda’s adventures. The two series will also crossover with the next one on the list, leading to what Kennedy referred to as a “climactic story event.”
Ahsoka is expected to premiere in 2022 on Disney+
Rangers of the New Republic
Aside from the fact that it will take place during the same timeline as The Mandalorian, we didn’t really get any information on this new series. Some folks are already speculating that the series will feature Cara Dune/Gina Carano, but that logo looks a bit more like something you’d see for something about fighter pilots. My guess is that we’ll be seeing X-Wings and Captain Teva in this one.

As if we weren’t already excited enough for this one, Kennedy revealed that Hayden Christensen will be returning as Anakin Skywalker! The series is set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and will apparently lead to the “rematch of the century.”
While this could potentially cause all types of continuity issues, it could all be all types of amazing. Also, that screaming sound you heard earlier in the evening was me crying out when they blocked the series’ production trailer from public view.

The Bad Batch
We’ve known about this one for a while, but today we got a trailer…and good lord was it amazing. It looks like the series will feature the Bad Batch working as part of the new Galactic Empire’s army, which would still be primarily staffed by clone troopers.
The series will also feature an appearance from Wilhuff Tarkin and someone who I’m pretty sure was Fennec Shand. You can watch the trailer posted below over and over again like I am and decide for yourself.

Cassian Andor‘s Rogue One spinoff series FINALLY gets a logo along with a production trailer, which is posted below. I’ll admit to being much more excited about this one after watching it.

Now this sounds cool: Leslye Headland will be writing and directing a series that Lucasfilm describes as “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” That’s a couple hundred hears before The Phantom Menace, meaning that we’ll get to see all types of new characters in a completely different setting.
No premiere date has been set for Acolyte to premiere on Disney+ yet, but the series can’t get here soon enough.
No word yet on if this “event series” will feature Donald Glover, Billy Dee Williams, or both. (Let’s hope it’s both). But it’s being created by Dear White People writer/director Justin Simien, so at least we know the script is likely to be great.
No premiere date was given for Lando, but let’s hope it’s soon.
Star Wars: Visions
Star Wars: Visions will be a series of original animated shorts created by some of the best anime studios in Japan. That should definitely be fun to watch.
Now let’s check out the Star Wars movie offerings:
Star Wars: A Droid Story
Star Wars: A Droid Story will be a Disney+ original film featuring a new hero droid being guided by C-3P0 and R2-D2. Much like my interest in this project, further information is thus far nonexistent.
Even if you don’t like the Sequel Trilogy, a series following starfighter pilots in the era following the First Order’s downfall sounds all types of cool. Add in the fact that Patty Jenkins is directing and I’ll take all the vaccine boosters shot I’m told to if it lets me into a theater to see this one.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is set to premiere in theaters in 2023…and Jenkins is ready to knock your socks off.

Untitled Taika Waititi Film
No info about this one, but Waititi’s involvement already guarantees that I’ll be buying a ticket.
There was also some cool non-Star Wars news from Lucasfilm, as well.
- James Mangold will direct the next Indiana Jones movie, which is set to release in July 2022. Don’t worry–Harrison Ford will be in it.
- Tomi Adeyemi’s novel Children of Blood & Bone is being adapted into a movie.
- A new Willow series on Disney+ is coming in 2022. More info on that here.
