Don’t forget these Christmas movies this year!

Non traditional Christmas fun.

Where do we even start when it comes to Christmas movies? There are so many to choose from and while everyone has a list of films they watch every Christmas, no two are alike. Action, rom coms, and even horror fans can all find something to watch each Yuletide season. But there are still some good ones that get overlooked.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Whether you want to refer to this as another Shane Black Christmas action flick or the movie that rejuvenated Robert Downey Jr.’s career, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a fun watch. A noir story with dark comedic elements, the movie gives its entire cast multiple moments to shine. It is exciting and funny with an intriguing mystery. Plus, has a severed finger ever been funnier?

Just Friends

You can’t have a list of underrated Christmas movies without including a rom com. Just Friends sees Ryan Reynolds show off his comedic chops as a formerly overweight nerd with a crush on his best friend and lifelong crush. Derivative? Absolutely. Charming? You bet.

The Apartment

This Billy Wilder classic would be good any time of the year which may be why people do not consider it a Christmas movie. The movie focuses on Bud Baxter, an insurance worker who lets his higher ranking co workers use his apartment for their extramarital affairs. Another rom com that takes place around Christmas, the movie won Best Picture at the Oscars.

Trading Places

Eddie Murphy could do no wrong in the 1980s. Trading Places is one of the earliest movies in this legendary career. The story of a street hustler and a commodities broker unknowingly dragged into an evil bet the movie is one of the funniest of all time. A strong argument can be made about how much importance it seems to place on wealth, but there is no denying its legacy.

Batman Returns

Possibly the most non-traditional Christmas movie on the list, Batman Returns is not much different than any other comic book movie. What does set it apart is the holiday atmosphere. Whereas Tim Burton’s first film was dark and gritty, this one is also…dark and gritty. But it is offset by some fantastic shots that make Gotham look (gasp) festive and cheery.

The best holidays are filled with science and football
