Jeff Lemire updates fans on two new DC Black Label titles and Black Hammer

Jeff Lemire fills in readers on what’s to come in 2021.

More and more it’s becoming clear you need to sign up for creator newsletters, like Jeff Lemire’s, to get up to the minute information we so desperately crave. Case in point, in this week’s newsletter from Jeff Lemire, new details on his upcoming projects were revealed.

Possibly one of the hottest indie projects today, Black Hammer has five separate projects in the works with Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy, Colonel Weird: Cosmagog, Barbalien: Red Planet, and the upcoming anthology series Black Hammer: Visions on the way. Lemire revealed the numerous titles are going to scale back big time as we approach the summer.

In his newsletter Lemire revealed he wants to take the world-building done in the last few years across titles and, “use it as the foundation for one core Black Hammer title again. That series will be called BLACK HAMMER REBORN and it will launch this Spring/Summer. Hopefully we will announce a few more details on that in the coming month or two.”

Fans of his work at DC Black Label–like the amazing Joker: Killer Smile–are in for a treat too. Lemire revealed he has not one, but two new projects scripted and being drawn as we speak. Both have yet to be announced and while Lemire points out he doesn’t know when they are coming he did reveal he’s working with Doug Mahnke on one of them.

“People often ask, “Is there any DC or Marvel characters you still really want to write?” and this is that character. My favourite DC character that I never really got the chance to do the way I wanted. But now I have,” Lemire said in his newsletter. What are the chances it’s an obscure character or a more mainstream one? Only time will tell.
