It was bound to happen eventually, but today Disney has revealed The Muppet Show is coming to Disney+. The streaming service has already launched a new Muppet program, hosts most of the Muppet movies, and now the classic show and all five of its seasons are heading to the platform. All five seasons will begin streaming Friday, February 19 exclusively on Disney+.
Longtime fans will note, seasons four and five have never before been released on home entertainment.
The show is notable for its many special guests like Steve Martin, Elton John, Liza Minnelli, Alice Cooper, Julie Andrews, Bernadette Peters, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Gene Kelly, and Mark Hamill.
In a press release sent to AIPT, Kermit the Frog has this to say: “It’s going to be great to welcome back longtime fans, and to give a new generation of fans a chance to see how we got our start, how Miss Piggy became a star and so much more. Today, I’m proud to say: ‘It’s time to play the music, light the lights and meet the Muppets on Disney Plus tonight!’ And as for Statler and Waldorf, the two old guys in the balcony, I can only add: ‘Sorry, guys, but….here we go again.”
