Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 02/08/2021

Superheroes, psychological horror, and family.

This week’s Channel Surfing TV picks has a little something for everyone. For those looking for some superhero action, don’t miss the arrival of the new season of Black Lightning. If psychological horror is more your bag, Clarice might be the show for you. Then if you want some good wholesome family fun and comedy, pay a visit to The Great North.

It’s About to Get Shocking

The CW has taken a slower approach to releasing its DC comics shows in the new year. It first began with Batwoman last month. The next series to begin is another black-led superhero series. Black Lightning returns for its fourth and final season.

The Pierce family will all be back to defend their home of Freeland and they seem closer than ever. However, Lynn has a dark secret that may tear them apart. Also, when we last left Black Lightning, there was talk of creating a boarding school for metahumans. Could a certain school principal who also possesses enhanced powers be involved in the creation of this educational institution? Hopefully we’ll find out this season which begins tonight, February 8, on The CW.

The Silence is Over

Most of the world was introduced to Clarice Starling in the critically acclaimed 1991 film, Silence of the Lambs. Jodie Foster immortalized the fictional FBI agent with her award-winning performance. CBS is looking to continue her story in the appropriately titled, Clarice.

The new series will follow Starling a year after her encounter with Hannibal Lecter as she continues to track down serial murderers and sexual predators. If that wasn’t challenging enough, she must also carefully walk the tightrope of the D.C. political landscape.

The series premiere of Clarice will air Thursday, February 11, on CBS.

Alaska Livin’

Fox is known for its animation block on Sunday nights which is the home of such fan favorites as Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, and Family Guy. There looks to be a new kid on the block with The Great North joining the line-up.

The show revolves around the Tobin family which is composed of single father, Beef, eldest son and his fiancée, Wolf and Honeybee Shaw, middle son, Ham, only daughter, Judy, and youngest, Moon. The cast is quite impressive with Nick Offerman as the family patriarch and Jenny Slate and Will Arnett voicing some of the Tobin children. Did I mention that Alanis Morissette plays herself as part of the Aurora Borealis?

Though two preview episodes have already aired, the official series premiere of The Great North is this Sunday, February 14, on Fox.
