On Friday, Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that a reboot of the Paranormal Activity franchise is in the works at Paramount.
The first film (which is slated for release on March 4, 2022) is set to be helmed by Underwater director Will Eubank. Christopher Landon, who wrote the first four Paranormal Activity movies, is set to write the script and serve as executive producer alongside Steven Schneider.
Franchise creator Oren Peli is also returning to produce the film along with Jason Blum from Blumhouse. While no plot details have been revealed yet, the new movie will still retain the franchise’s “found footage” format.
Even with Oren Peli and Blumhouse’s involvement, it’s hard to get excited for a reboot of a franchise that very recently appeared to have run it’s course.
That being said, will nostalgia and the fact that I’m a sucker for found footage horror be enough to make me see the next Paranormal Activity movie when it hits theaters?
*Sigh*
Yeah…it will.
