‘Big Show’ Paul Wight joins AEW

WEEEEEELLLLLLLLL no one saw this coming.

Paul Wight, known to WWE fans as the Big Show, has joined All Elite Wrestling in a long term deal. AEW announced the signing on their Twitter account and via press release on their website.

“As 2021 shapes up to be the year for AEW’s biggest shows yet,” the press release coyly says, “today the promotion announced that wrestling legend Paul Wight signed a long-term deal, adding yet another universally regarded name to AEW’s roster of stars, legends, and upcoming talent. Wight will have an extensive role within AEW, and on top of his return to the ring, he will serve as a commentator on AEW’s newest show, AEW Dark: Elevation.”

Wight joins a long list of former WWE Superstars and Legends who have jumped ship to AEW over the past couple of years. Assuming he appears on tonight’s episode of Dynamite, it will be Wight’s first appearance on the TNT network since 1998.

Paul Wight has had an enduring and memorable run in the wrestling business, bursting onto the scene in 1995 as WCW’s “The Giant” by defeating Hulk Hogan for the WCW Championship in his first match. He is a seven time world champion and is the only person to be WWE, WCW and ECW Champion, capturing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice, the ECW World Championship once, WWE’s World Heavyweight Championship twice and the WWE Championship twice. His last appearance for WWE was in a losing effort against Randy Orton in an unsanctioned match in July.
