On Friday, Neill Blomkamp revealed on Twitter that he is working on a script for District 10, the highly anticipated sequel to his 2009 film District 9. Academy award nominated screener writer Terri Tatchell and actor Sharlto Copley are both returning and writing the script with him, as well.

If you haven’t seen District 9 before, then you are missing out. The movie was adapted from another short film Blomkamp released in 2006 entitled Alive in Joburg, which you can see below.
Both films revolve around a group of refugee aliens whose ship is stranded over the South African city of Johannesburg. After departing their craft, they’re forced to live in a segregated area designated District 9.
Like any situation where a government targets and oppresses a particular group, things quickly break down and become dangerous for everyone. When the South African government decides to move the aliens to an even worse location dubbed District 10, things get exponentially worse.
Blomkamp has spoken of his desire to make District 10 for years, but this is the first time we’ve had confirmation that the movie is development. I had originally been holding out hope that his next project would be turning Zygote into a feature length film, but I’m totally fine if this take precedence instead.
