Poe Dameron was a human male spice runner of Kijimi and later a starfighter pilot for the New Republic and Resistance, who was active during the era of the New Republic and the First Order. Born in 2 ABY and raised on the colony at Yavin 4 — site of a former Rebel Alliance secret base — Dameron’s parents were Lieutenant Shara Bey and Sergeant Kes Dameron, members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Shara Bey was one of the best pilots in the Alliance and her son quickly followed in her footsteps, learning to fly his mother’s old RZ-1 A-wing interceptor at the age of 6. By 18 ABY, Dameron had become a member of the Spice Runners of Kijimi and developed a relationship with fellow spice runner Zorii Bliss, but Dameron ultimately left the group and as a result their relationship ended.

Eventually, Dameron became a pilot in the New Republic Defense Fleet where he trained under the legendary pilot and Rebel veteran Wedge Antilles, becoming one of the old Rebel’s best students. Dameron worked his way up to the rank of commander, earned his own astromech droid, BB-8, and was assigned to lead his own squadron of T-85 X-wings, Rapier Squadron. Following a run-in with the First Order and the New Republic’s leeway with the fringe military group, the young pilot became focused on putting a stop to whatever the First Order was planning. Despite mounting evidence that the First Order was conducting a massive military buildup, the leaders of the New Republic refused to take action against them and as a result of their inaction and a conversation with Princess Leia Organa Solo, Dameron left his military position with the New Republic to join Organa in the Resistance, a secret military force organized to defend the New Republic and oppose the First Order.

As a member of the Resistance, Dameron was put in command of Black Squadron, which he led in a number of covert missions against the First Order, including the hunt for the map to Luke Skywalker, until open war was declared following the destruction of the Hosnian system. Dameron and his squadron fended off the First Order’s attack on Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana and led the attack on Starkiller Base. On the giant super weapon planet, the leader of Black Squadron was able to slip inside a key mechanical area and destroy a vital power control system which led to the base’s destruction when it exploded.

Dameron led an ill-fated attack against a First Order dreadnaught during the evacuation of the Resistance base on D’Qar, costing the lives of an entire bomber squadron. His frustrations with Resistance leadership mounted, culminating in the pilot leading a mutiny against Admiral Amilyn Holdo, which ultimately failed and taught Dameron a massive lesson in humility and trust.

After barely escaping with his life from the Battle of Crait, Dameron helped the Resistance rebuild its forces in anticipation for the looming final battle with Kylo Ren, the First Order, and Emperor Palpatine. Together with Rey, Finn, BB-8, C-3PO, and Chewbacca, the ace pilot hunted down clues to the location of a Sith wayfinder, which helped lead the Resistance to Darth Sidious and the Sith planet Exegol. Having located the wayfinder, Dameron — now a General in the Resistance — led the meager Resistance fleet against the Final Order’s fleet above the planet Exegol, where it was nearly destroyed until the timely arrival of a fleet made up of thousands of ships from the free worlds of the galaxy. Dameron and the Resistance ultimately emerged victorious and he celebrated overcoming impossible odds in the arms of his closest friends.
