It’s a milestone day for X-Men Monday as it reaches its 100th edition today and it’s chock-full of story teases, exclusive preview art, and a ton of comments from the X-office. That includes heavyweights like Jonathan Hickman! One of the biggest reveals in the column is the announcement that Victor LaValle (The Changeling, Big Machine, Boom! Studios’ Destroyer) will be joining the X-Men team!
Details are scarce–we don’t know if LaValle will be writing a series, a miniseries, or a one-shot–but in X-Men Monday #100 LaValle says this about their upcoming X-Men work:
Victor LaValle: I haven’t officially begun writing for the X-Men line yet, but I have already found myself incredibly geeked that I will get to take a classic, and beloved, villain who has been on the island all along and get to finally start telling his Krakoa story.
A few key details make this news positively tantalizing. The first being that LaValle will be writing a villain who has not yet made themselves known on Krakoa. That immediately takes a few famous villains off the table like Mr. Sinister and Magneto since we have seen them throughout Dawn of X and Reign of X.
Who could LaValle be talking about? Only a handful of “beloved” villains haven’t been seen yet. My guess is Sauron or Cassandra Nova, but sound off in the comments and let us know who you think the character will be!
