First Look: Jeff Lemire’s ‘Sweet Tooth’ Netflix series

‘Sweet Tooth’ will be available on Netflix on June 4th.

It has been years in the making, but Jeff Lemire’s Sweet Tooth is finally arriving on Netflix this June. Back in May of 2020, producer (and your favorite Iron Man actor) Robert Downey Jr. revealed Sweet Tooth was picked up by Netflix. The series originally published at Vertigo–a publisher now retired–from 2009 through 2013 for 40 issues. Though Vertigo is now shuttered one might hope they slap the logo on the production as it follows the five-season run of iZombieLucifer, and AMC’s Preacher.

The project has been shopped around–nearly two years ago Jeff Lemire had the exciting news Sweet Tooth was soon to be a Hulu television show–but today Jeff Lemire confirmed the release date of June 4th along with a few images from the series.

Check those out below.

But wait, there’s more. Check out the trailer for the series below!

Sweet Tooth recently made a comeback with a sequel series under the DC Black Label imprint at DC Comics. That series is a “bold reimagining” colored by José Villarubia. Who knows, if the Netflix show is a huge success maybe Sweet Tooth: The Return will be streaming soon!

So what’s Sweet Tooth about?

Ten years ago “The Great Crumble” wreaked havoc on the world and led to the mysterious emergence of hybrids — babies born part human, part animal. Unsure if hybrids are the cause or result of the virus, many humans fear and hunt them. After a decade of living safely in his secluded forest home, a sheltered hybrid deer-boy named Gus (Christian Convery) unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie). Together they set out on an extraordinary adventure across what’s left of America in search of answers— about Gus’ origins, Jepperd’s past, and the true meaning of home. But their story is full of unexpected allies and enemies, and Gus quickly learns the lush, dangerous world outside the forest is more complex than he ever could have imagined
