DC Comics announces horror event ‘Fear State’ for August 2021

Batman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and more face off against a new threat to Gotham in ‘Fear State’ this August.

Today, DC Comics has announced a new fall event that’s horror-themed set in and around Gotham City called “Fear State.” The event promises to continue to tell Scarecrow’s fear-controlled Gotham story but also ties into Mayor Nakano’s mission to protect the city with The Magistrate. The event also is promised to set up a new status quo for 2022. The event will take place over multiple titles and will carry forward on a weekly basis.

“Fear State” kicks off with I Am Batman #0 written by John Ridley with art by Travel Foreman with new batman Jace Fox protecting Alleytown from The Magistrate. Out August 10th, Jace is using armor and Batman equipment he found at Bruce Wayne’s old base.

The story continues on August 17th in Catwoman #34 with the story focused on Alleytown. Ram V and Fernando Blanco, and will focus on Catwoman trying to keep her neighborhood safe. The following week, Stephanie Phillips and Laura Braga continue the tale in Harley Quinn #6 as Harley joins the fray to help Catwoman.

Then on August 31st, James Tynion IV and Ricardo Federici launch Batman: Fear State Alpha #1 as the heroes are overwhelmed by Scarecrow and Peacekeeper-01. They’re also threatened by the “anti-Oracle” and the return of Poison Ivy.

I Am Batman #0 – The age of a new Dark Knight begins! On August 10, picking up immediately from the events of The Next Batman: Second Son, Jace Fox begins the march toward his destiny when he fights to protect Alleytown against the oppressive forces of the Magistrate, using Batman armor and tech he’s found in Bruce Wayne’s old base of operations, the Hibernaculum!

Catwoman #34 – Then on August 17, Alleytown continues to be the hotspot in Gotham City, with Selina Kyle’s quest to keep her home safe beset on all sides, not only by law enforcement gone bad, but a potential invasion by the city’s villains as well. And if those problems aren’t enough, Batman makes the scene, breaking his and Selina’s vow to give each other another one-year break.
