Worst Pokémon Trainer designs

Every generation has a few less than notable outfits in the series history.

We discussed the best Pokémon Trainer designs last time, now let’s go over the worst. I think the Pokémon series has some of the best character art out of any video game franchise. Every generation has their excellent monsters and trainers. However, there a few less than notable outfits in the series history. So let’s not waste anytime and discuss the worst designs, like no one ever was!

Brendan (Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire)

Pokémon

Some people quite like this design as it feel more like a mix between Brendan’s Ruby and Sapphire outfit and his Emerald clothes. I however, think this looks droll and unappealing. Brendan’s design does not strike me the way his past two designs did. I honestly loved how his hair was almost completely covered by his white hat in the original games. Also those shorts are just tacky.

Lyra (Heart Gold and Soul Silver)

Pokémon

I think Lyra’s design is fine for what it is. Yet it’s so bland compared to the more exciting outfits worn by Ethan and Kris. As much as I like the Super Mario inspired overalls, I honestly find Lyra’s outfit serviceable at best. Unlike Red and May, who use Red and Blue really well together, Lyra’s shade of berry and blue do not compliment her as much as other protagonists.

Chase and Elaine (Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee)

Worst Pokémon Trainer designs

Remember how I mentioned Pokémon trainers tend to overuse Red and Blue coloring? I would say Chase and Elaine from Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee are the worst offenders. I never understood why Game Freak needed to remake Kanto AGAIN. Or why Chase, Elaine, and Trace were brought into existence in the first place. They feel and look pointless. If you want to return to Kanto, go play Fire Red and Leaf Green.

Calem (X and Y)

Worst Pokémon Trainer designs

Ok, where do I begin? Calem looks awkward at all times and is yet another bland Red and Blue trainer. At least for people sick of Ash Ketchum, Ash’s outfits are way better than the ones his game counterparts have bar none. I do like the sunglasses as it gives him something unique compared to others. And with X and Y you can always swap outfits with trainer customization.

Lucas (Platinum)

Pokémon

I think Lucas may honestly be my least favorite Pokemon Trainer design of all time. I will admit there are more interesting elements to him than others in his Diamond and Pearl outfit. Yet that was all discarded with a new winter look that makes him look a dime a dozen. I get why people love Dawn, Cynthia, and Barry so much. They are eccentric and full of personality. Lucas on the other hand? He’s just there.
